While some dogs take their monthly heartworm preventatives easily, there are a few who have come through my board-and-train dog training program who have said, “Later lady! I’ll skip that one.” Well, kid, not on my watch.
Heartworm preventative is life sustaining preventative. The last thing any dog owner should gamble with is the possibility of their dog contracting heartworm from an infected mosquito. In Florida, we have plenty of those blood sucking insects, so it’s all the more important to get your pup on the preventative as soon as possible.
If you find your dog is giving you the finger when you’re giving him the pill, then this is one trick I use to make the medicine go down, and it’s not a spoon full of sugar. But in the dog’s eyes, maybe it’s close. Try it!
