Oh Very Young – The Cat Sings

Today I read a horrible story about a 24-year-old person who bludgeoned and stabbed their dog to death. It was a mere few miles from my home. I know there are stories like this in proximity to many people. If not this year, last year, or years ago. If not now, the future is wide opened. And I don’t know what makes this maddening, venomous, cruelity suddenly escape, but the thought that it is festering in people and that our beloved dogs and pets get to be the literal scapegoats for such rage, sickens me and all pet lovers. Such a story hits home, especially when I was 3 miles away and with super hearing, may have had a chance to help. The only good news is that laws have been upgraded to make what I will call “people” who commit these crimes ever more responsible by jail time and severe penalties.

I don’t know how long this page will be up on Wink News, but the original report stated this hateful person was a male, but now is reported as a female. I’m confused about these changes as well. But this is the report of the crime from the website in a nutshell:

>>“I’m speechless,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “This is possibly the most brutal and horrific example of animal abuse my team or I have ever seen. We will pursue the absolute maximum punishment for this horrific crime.”

Correction: Information originally released publicly referred to the suspect as a male and has since been updated on the LCSO arrest page to show the suspect is female.”<<

After this, I started hearing a song in my mind’s ear. Cat Stevens was one of my favorites back in the day. With all the insecurities and needs to be strong now, I thought it would be a good song to post.

Oh Very Young
Cat Stevens

Oh very young, what will you leave us this time
You’re only dancin’ on this earth for a short while
And though your dreams may toss and turn you now
They will vanish away like your dads best jeans
Denim blue, faded up to the sky
And though you want them to last forever
You know they never will
You know they never will
And the patches make the goodbye harder still

Oh very young what will you leave us this time
There’ll never be a better chance to change your mind
And if you want this world to see a better day
Will you carry the words of love with you
Will you, will you ride the great white bird into heaven
And though you want to last forever
You know you never will
You know you never will
And the goodbye makes the journey harder still

Will you carry the words of love with you
Will you ride, oh, ooh

Oh very young, what will you leave us this time
You’re only dancin’ on this earth for a short while
Oh very young, what will you leave us this time

From the look of the person’s face on the mugshot, they need an intervention from Powers Higher than us mere mortals. There is no pride in what they did, even though the expression in their photo appears to express that. What is in such people that they can actually express anger on a beautiful pet dog who actually has the power, the bigger of the species, to kill any one of us, any day with ferocity and jaw power. But they don’t. Not even, in this case, in defending itself. These are the stories nightmares are made of.

I train dogs humanely. Contact me for more information. Especially if you are overwhelmed with training your dog or puppy.

Facing my own deceased dogs’ lifeless toys in the yard has been heart breaking. When a beloved pet leaves us, the gaping hole is painful to face. Whether the dog has had to leave their owner through euthanasia, died of natural causes, run away, or something terrible has happened; pet lovers grieve. Even for pet dogs who are not their own. Dogs depend on us for care and safety. Be your dog’s advocate or those dogs who neighbor you and need help. Speak up for those pets in distress.

If you cannot handle the stress of being a dog owner, turn over your dog to the local shelter. Never think there are no options when being the owner of a pet becomes overwhelming.
